“Each and every old object tells me the way the city is rusting.”
In Malay, a flea market is called “pasar karat,” which literally means a “rusty garage”.
Rusty objects, rusty pasts, rusty people…
All of these can be rubbish or treasure depending on who’s the visitor.
These mottles, in the eyes of the author NOvia, are texts quietly linked together as an exclusive history lesson.
After Slowork’s famous anthologies “Monsoon”, the title is transformed into an experimental book series of atypical work.
To re-launch “Monsoon”, Slowork invites Malaysian artist NOvia Shin, who is an expert in micro-illustration and paper sculpture installation.
Taking the flea market in Ipoh as the stage, NOvia’s work combines with various elements such as illustrations, comics, photo collages, notes, etc.
Come join the art book and start a mini adventure through the detailed laser-engraved scenes and explore the rusty bazaar!
